Pure Awesomeness

One of the best RPGs ever

Wow

Update: quick save works great. You just cant use it in a town (where theres a church)/certain dungeons. On the field, and in most dungeons, however, its a fantastic way to save your game. (I just used it the second after I recruited a metal slime on the third floor of Whealbrook Adit.) The best part about DQ5s quick save is that it doesnt delete itself when you load it (like some games) and it transfers to the cloud when you sync it. I actually use it as my primary save because sometimes its faster to walk out of town then to walk all the way to the church. Its also a great way to have two saves for one play through if you intend to use the 3 given game save slots for marrying each bride. I am so excited to have Dragon Quest V on iOS. It has been one of my favorite games since playing it on the DS. (So nice to be able to disguise my game playing with a phone/iPad. At 28 I feel a little silly carrying a DS in public—that alone is worth the price.) This has one of the best stories of any game Ive ever played and I love collecting monsters (even though I rarely use them). Seems to be running great so far (text was a little blurry on iPad Air but I got used to it after a few minutes. Probably better, graphics-wise to play on iPhone as the sprites appear almost too pixilated on iPad). DQV follows the same "portrait mode only" as other Dragon Quest games and even when the controls are set to "small" size, the D-pad is a bit oversized on the screen (especially considering you can move without it). Im also glad they included iCloud, as a couple of the last DQ games they released did not include that feature. Overall, completely worth the price.

Great game, not the greatest port

I love the DQ series. Ive loved each of the iPhone ports thus far. However, this one seems to have some of the most problems. The quick save option doesnt work, which is bad for mobile playing. And a bit nit picky, but when there are more than one enemy in a group, it doesnt change to plural (still says "a slime" for a group of slimes). Hopefully theyll fix this soon. I want to be able to fully enjoy this port like the others.

Best Dragon Quest!

I’ve played all Dragon Quest and V is the best one in my opinion. I played this game for the first time back in 1992. I was in Japan at that time and I remember how everyone was so deeply engaged with this game. Since then there were many versions, but the core story is the same. Trust me, you will be playing this 24/7. A truly classic in every sense. If you are fan of RPG, this is a must for your collection.

Waited for this one

I have all the DQ, but I have waited for this one specifically, and I was not disappointed, worth your money. Better than all other ports, and yes the quick save works fine, dont mind the other reviews.

Masterpiece

To the last review... Its made for mobile, not ipad, its supposed to be portrait! You dont need to auto save in towns--- thats what the church is for... To everyone else: As good as a DQ game gets.

Wont download

Why wont this app download it just says waiting. Does anyone know how to fix it.

Wow

I cant believe Square Enix messed this one up. No auto save on a mobile device? I went to my browser quickly to check something, then when I went back to my game the whole app restarted and I lost my progress. Ill give the game 5 stars once saving has been addressed.

Glad its here.

An epic game more than worthy of the Dragon Quest title. This is the most awesome of DQ games. Make a choice halfway through that will decide fate for the rest of the game! From monster recruitment to watching your hero grow from childhood to parenthood, its all amazing!

Amazing

Very good game completely worth the money.

A masterpiece

This is a must have for any RPG fan. Amazing story and fun gameplay. The best of all Dragonquest games and one of the best RPGs ever.

The best of Dragon Quest!

This game is perfection. The multi generation story line where you can get married and have kids is excellent and the rpg is old school awesome. Do your self a favor and experience one of the greatest challenging game of all time!

An (almost) perfect port.

The DS Remake of this amazing game is the reason I got into DEEP long RPG franchises. This port brings back my younger self in me, feeling like I AM the hero. The music is crisper, the lack of the big break in the top and bottom DS screens is a HUGE bonus, and the load time is almost nothing. The only problems I have are minor at best. The grammar is a bit off at times, saying a slime when there are seven or eight. And I have big thumbs, so the largest movement circle is blocky on screen, and I seem to bump the menu buttons and times. I did have it crash once randomly when I was (spoilers-in the cave to get your dads letter) but the auto save was maybe 5 min before. All in all its an amazing port. It is an amazing game, and I cant wait to go beat estark.

Very pleased!

Only negative I have come across is there is no option to switch the top/bottom screens for battle. Loading times are excellent, sound is good. The controls are awkward at first, but quickly learned. Overall very pleased!!

Lovely masterpiece

In my opinion, DQV is second only to DQVI as far as the series goes... On its own, this game boasts one of the most unique and exciting storylines in RPG history. An incredible game!

Outstanding, 12 hours in

It is a terrific game. Easy to control. Great story. Beautiful original graphics. IGN review and guide is helpful. Since the game save method is true to original, I dont play it when I only have 5 minutes. I had to read IGN review to understand when and how to save. I havent left it running in the background for more than 5 minutes and I have not lost a game bringing it back up. The point here is it is a fully developed and produced game, and it shows. Worth the cost.

Awesome!

I love this game, its so excellent, it has everything I like in an RPG that I grew up with, its sprite characters in 3D environments like XenoGears was, and also like XG allows me to see the environment from any angle and search in anything, dresser, wardrobe, clay pot, barrel whatever... The fighting is great, the score is clear and well done, I love this game, I never got to play this on the DS so even better for me. Love how the merged the top and bottom screens from the DS into one screen, thats why there will never be a landscape mode people, its an adaption of a port from the Nintendo DS, what would you expect.

Nice port

DQV reminds me my childhood. Its one of best RPG in the history.

Great Old-School JRPG

I liked DQIV but I like V even more after 7 hours of playing it. The story, locations and characters are so far really interesting. The Story being the strong point. It is old-school and kind of simple gameplay wise. I like these old-games once in awhile though. If only square would release Chrono Trigger with these 2D/3D mixed graphics for iOS...

My favorite DQ. fix a few issues and Id give it a 5/5

I bought this bc its favorite dragon quest and Ive never played it in English. The price is pretty steep for the quality of the port but I bought it anyway mostly for sentimental reasons. This could be a lot better with a minimal amount updating. Here are my suggestions to improve this legendary title: -please add party hp/mp to the display when not moving. Its not cool to have to go into a menu to see hp and mp. -please allow for landscape -please optimize for iPad -please allow to rotate camera while walking
